UHA Drive Shaft Torque Sensors

Description

The drive-shaft torque sensor system rides directly on the shaft itself, using a bearing grade plastic. The torque-sensor housing is axially constrained using a groove in the housing that interfaces with an mating feature on the sensor housing.

MagCanica offers two variations of drive-shaft torque sensors. The version shown is the larger of the two variations, featuring extensive magnetic shielding, integrated seals, and cutting-edge electronics and firmware that achieves 0.25% in-vehicle accuracy. Only DC power needs to be provided, and the measured torque-signal is returned over CAN along with additional diagnostic information. Rotation of the sensor housing assembly on the driveshaft is prevented by an anti-rotation feature (not shown) which tends to be installation dependent.

Specifications

  • The total width of the sensor is ~60mm.
  • While a raised ‘transducer’ region may be required on the shaft such that the maximum stress is within the material’s allowable limitation, this is only true in the immediate region where the sensor is located (“measurement zone”). The sensor itself weighs ~150 grams.
  • This sensor is highly optimized for accuracy and can achieve better than 0.25% accuracy over the full temperature operating range, under any loading cycles applied, and even with transverse and compressive stresses being applied.
  • Dependent on the design, typical rated-capacities are 5000Nm acceleration to -3000Nm deceleration.
  • The accuracy is specified over the operating temperature range of ambient temperature (20ᵒC) to 120ᵒC.
  • The sensor features an integrated connector.
  • The units are fully sealed and can be exposed to water.
  • Sealed bushings are incorporated into the sensor, such that it does not need to be serviced.
